The holidays came early to TODAY Friday morning, as the enormous Norway spruce that will become the world-famous Rockefeller Center tree arrived at the plaza. The tree made the trip from the yard of the Vargoshe Family from Shelton, Connecticut, who donated the tree.
Until the annual lighting ceremony on Dec. 4, check out these surprising facts.
76 feet: That's the tree's height. It's 57 feet in diameter and weighs approximately 12 tons.
13 Rockettes: If you stacked them on top of each other, the leggy tower still wouldn't be as tall as the tree. (Fun fact: The average height of a Rockette dancer is 5 feet, 8 inches.)
75 years: The tree has been been growing for over seven decades.
More than 20 years: How long the Vargoshes, Louise and John, and their two children, Noah and Nathan, have been enjoying and climbing it in their yard.
The 1960s: When its original owner used it as a Christmas tree, before planting it in his front yard.
45,000: That's how many multi-colored LED lights will be strung together to decorate it before it's lit on Dec. 4.
9 and-a-half feet: The diameter of the Swarovski crystal star — lit with energy-efficient LED bulbs — that will top it.
